Cyprus

This Mediterranean Island is a geopolitical hotbed with four forces occupying the island in some way: Greek-Cypriot, Turkish-Cypriot, the United Nations and Britain. There is a lot of complexity to the relations between all the identities - particular Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

Matthew visited the island during March 2017 with Royal Holloway University of London for fieldwork research and a second time in September 2017 for a separate research project. As part of it, he made several films and took photos. The films and photos at the top are part of the March fieldwork and below from the September research. Through photography and films, Matthew has attempted to capture the emotions and perceptions experienced while on the small island.

All photos on this page were taken on analogue cameras.
